Solar system introduces clean water to village

SOLARBABA -- EkoRE continues to work on introducing solar to agriculture and villages. After the first project of 67 kW in Şanlıurfa which became the first irrigation-oriented system in Turkey, and second project in Diyarbakır with a .25MW power, EkoRE now turns its face to western Turkey and completes another solar-powered pumping project in Mersin.

Company’s project in Diyarbakır was honored by attendance of local governorate and even several members of the parliament to give support for the cause. As one of the largest agricultural economies in the world, Turkey sure has a reason to develop sustainable means to production.

This time, EkoRE initiated a project in Mersin’s Gökçetaş village which has a population of 700. The project will be introducing the village the chance to supply its own clean water for the first time to use for both daily needs and agricultural work. The 3.5kW system may be small, but it tells about how small and yet essential a need can be sometimes.

The Gökçetaş village had no access to electricity, and solar power was their answer. In winters, the village was getting empty, but in summers, villagers comes back to make a living from animal husbandry and agriculture. But lack of water forced them to seek water tankers or carry themselves from the creek a far.

What the solar-pumping system does is basically drawing water from nearby creek to fill the village’s clean water tanks that are a kilometer away. By the 60m rising-power and 50 tons of pressure capacity, the 20 ton water tanks get ready for service.

EkoRE CEO Serhan Süzer says they are proud to be in the service of the local population in gaining access to fresh water by sustainable and renewable means of energies, and that they believe in a future with alternative energies.
